For this project I want to keep things relatively simple, though to be fair, I’m not exactly sure what “simple” here would actually amount. But in any case, let’s start with a business question.

“You can solve any problem, or answer any question, if you have the right information.” This is the foundation of wise decision-making and the reasoning behind the data fields themselves. When stakeholders want to make a choice to determine some new policy or procedure, they need good information in order to make good decisions. “Data,” as a field, is built to take the information that is already present in the data and get it to those who need that information to make good and wise choices.

So to start out a good data project, we have to ask ourselves what sort of business problem are the stakeholders going to be solving, which typically leads into asking good business questions. So, let’s start out with the business questions of Queen City Feeders and Supply, a fictional company that is based on and inspired by the company I want to start and work for someday.

Queen City Feeders and Supply is a start up based out of the Villages in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma that aims to provide competitively priced, consistently supplied and premium quality feeder prekilled and frozen rats and mice to the south central region of the United States. It strives to become the number two supplier in the state while resting on its standards of ethical care and humane animal husbandry.

Because of the general decentralized nature of the feeder rodent industry, finding quality information for making clear decisions can be difficult if one is not already a long time player in the field. QCFS has approached me for help with answering a few questions.

So over the next few weeks, I’ll be working through how I’m going to get the answers that Queen City Feeders and Supply have asked for, from start to finish.
